Can’t?

What is it about the race industry that they can’t help but be racist when equality rules look like they are going to be applied to them? After all, just take a look at the Equality and Human Rights Commission who are planning to reduce their numbers by 50% running into the fact that because they (over) employ black, ethnic minority or otherwise disabled people that these people are now claiming it would be racist/sexist/disablist to do that very thing. Different rules would as ever seem to apply to certain groups.

Mail.

Staff at the Government’s equality quango are insisting they cannot be sacked – because it would break equality laws.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission is set to cut worker numbers by half as a result of budget cuts.
But in a letter, employees have warned to do so would breach the very equality laws the quango seeks to defend.
They say the jobs would mean virtually all of the commission’s employees who are black, ethnic minority or otherwise disabled will lose their jobs.
In a letter to the commission’s deputy chairwoman, Baroness Prosser, staff members wrote: ‘The deletion of these posts coupled with the planned closure of many offices will mean that virtually all the commission’s BME [black and ethnic minority] and disabled staff will lose their jobs.’
The letter says cutting staff from minority groups and the disabled will breach the Equality Act – the law it is tasked with enforcing.

My heart bleeds for them.

Now I’m no fan of the Equalities quango, I believe it reinforces prejudice against the majority for the minority. All we need are equality laws, not an enforcing body dedicated to seeing racism wherever it looks. Therefore if an employer has on their books a majority of  black, ethnic minority or otherwise disabled people then it cannot be anything other than fair when the majority of them have to go, after all to do anything else would surely be discriminatory against the minority able bodied white amongst them?

Sadly though you just cannot seem to apply common sense when dealing with either the government or the race industry, you apparently cannot be treat the same as anyone else if you belong to a minority, apparently it’s in the rules somewhere (according to them) that they are untouchable.

Equality should mean exactly that, you’re treat the same as everyone else under similar circumstances. That’s not to say that in certain circumstances we make special allowances for the disabled in order for them to do their jobs with greater ease, just that if the majority of people working in an area are disabled they take their chances along with everyone else. As for ethnic minorities? So long as you aren’t discriminated against, then in similar circumstances you take your chances as well.

Different rules should not apply.

How would reducing staff numbers by 50% mean getting rid of all the BME employees?
Unless the EHRC are saying that all of their BME staff are worse than their non-BME staff, but that would be a bit racist wouldn’t it?

    Hoisted by their own petard?

      Also:
“They say the jobs would mean virtually all of the commission’s employees who are black, ethnic minority or otherwise disabled will lose their jobs”

Since when was being of an alternative ethnicity considered a disability?

A simple answer to the problem – delete the quango, that way they are all treated the same and excellent cost cutting has been achieved.

It is worth noting that, even with this redundancy drive there will still be 150 of them left. What on earth do they find to do all day ?
Best solution is to just cull the lot.

The letter says cutting staff from minority groups and the disabled will breach the Equality Act…

All sounds a bit vague to me. Let’s see chapter and verse on that.

As above, shut the lot, then there’ll be no discrimination on that score and we’ll be £20m better off, although some guesstimates are £53m.

    What’s not to like?

“All we need are equality laws……”

I have but one question: why?

    • July 31, 2012 at 9:20 pm

      Indeed.

Why to give those who may be discriminated against recourse to employment law to fight or prove their case. Doesn’t need extra laws at all, just a level playing field.

Surely Black and Ethnic Minorities would initialize to BEM (or BaEM, or B&EM)?

Perhaps BME really means “Bloody Minded Ethnics”!

You’re right, though, Ivan, WoaR, et al – shut the lot down, and sack ‘em all. I have despised the whole “equality” thing for a long time, when I’d be out with a friend, and, after ordering the beers, the phrase, “And my black friend will pay,” would cause a small storm. What fun!

As I understand it, the ‘minority’ group at the EHRC are white. Under current ethnic legislation, it is not an offence under race relations law to sack white people. It only applies to blacks, Asians and Orientals.

I’m ex R.A.F. and when I was serving, our Flight Sergeant would shout up the bay, “Sambo!” to which our resident Asian would reply, “Yes honky?” This was good natured and friendly believe it or not.

Then we got our first black, Pete, (it’s ahnly coz ahm black mahn,) Cummings. The atmosphere changed entirely.

Pete got a sort of comeuppance when he moved to a squadron. He was giving his usual, it’s ahnly coz ahm black mahn, when Craig, also black said,

Listen Pete, the only difference between you and any other cunt is, you’re a black cunt!

Oh how long I’d been wanting to say that!

These arses that shout „racism“ every two minutes are so full of themselves, that they consider that they never say a word without thinking about it 15 times, and mean everything they say deadly serious.

Therefore they can not grasp the idea, that a pissed football fan shouting “I fucking hate Mexico!”, and going home to finish off a case of tequila, is NOT the same as gassing six million Jews.

The trouble is, THEY are the ones that have worked themselves, (or should that be insinuated themselves ?) into positions of “authority”, and ensured only those that agree get a cats chance in Hel of getting anywhere near the job.

    Sack the bloody lot! Bastards.

And there was me actually half believing iDave when he said there would be a bonfire of the quangos, in fact I think there are more of them now than when this lot started.
