Simple: Because It’s Their Money To Give…

Alex watched the money pouring in, with a mixture of awe and despair, wondering how people can give so generously to animal charities, when research which could lead to a cure for boys like Harrison fails to attract funds. ‘‘I really wondered why anyone would suddenly donate to a dog’s home when children are dying,’’ he says.

That’s the real answer. And that’s as it should be, in a free society.

Says Alex, bleakly: ‘‘I love dogs, too. But you have to ask why would anyone prioritise a dog over a child?’’

I don’t care much for them, I prefer cats. And I prefer to spend my charity money where I want to spend it.

And if that’s animals rather than children, so be it…

The bottom line is it’s our money to dispense, though govt fights the notion.

I have some sympathy with this view. However I would say why do we give single mums the most generous benefits in Europe when we could be spending the money on researching many serious illness.
Or why does the EU pay to have 2 parliaments etc
