Well, Yes. That’s Precisely The Point!

Council leader Warren Morgan said the authority would no longer be able to do what it did in 2010 in 2019.

Well, yes. There’s that thing called ‘austerity’ now, hadn’t you heard? Labour spent all the money.

So now councils are having to tighten their belts, and can’t splurge taxpayer cash on their private little fiefdoms any more.

Or so we are lead to believe…

Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, leader of the Conservative Group, said: “Despite the Labour Administration having originally voted against all of our amendments, we are delighted that they have shown common sense by agreeing virtually all of our amendments.

“This means that we have succeeded with saving funding mental health support, vital respite care for parents of disabled children, housing support to protect against homelessness, public toilets, verge cutting and noise patrol services.

“The Conservatives also succeeded in retaining funds for the Community Grants Programme, a vital resource for those who need it most”.

So, what has been cut?

The budget was finally agreed at just before 10.45pm and confirms the closure of five children’s centres as well as Tower House Day Centre while two libraries in Westdene and Hollingbury will be merged into a school and children’s centre.

Further unpopular cuts to meals on wheels, public toilets, sexual health services and youth services have also been agreed.

Around 260 jobs will go from the council over the next 12 months with a further 280 to be cut by 2020 when a further £48 million of cuts are expected to be made.

Funny, I don’t see anywhere that those job losses and service cuts are going to impact anti-obesity campaigns, anti-smoking crusades, funding numerous politically-correct stalls at each council-led event, and any of the other totally pointless councils jobs.

So I’m not sure why the Tories are in such self-congratulatory mood…

Residents will see their bills rise by 3.99 per cent from April – the biggest rise allowed by central government without a referendum with two per cent of that additional rise ringfenced for adult social care services.

Heh! Well, they’ve only themselves to blame, they elected this bunch!

Why not save half a million, keep the services people want open and sack these useless councillors?

The threshold for referendum should be 0.0001%. It’s our money. If they want to spend it, they ask our permission. If they want to raise it, they need to tell us what for and present a business plan and *then* we say yes or no.
