Just Let ‘Em Go, Nev…

Brighton and Hove divisional commander Nev Kemp said he had authorised monitoring of a number of teenagers after two brothers died fighting in Syria.

He added that he had personally authorised monitoring one girl who he thought would be probably be in Syria by now if not for authorities’ intervention.

…and don’t let ’em come back!

“We were successful in preventing that. It was a girl and she is still here in Brighton and seems to be flourishing.”

Oh, well, if she seems to be flourishing… *rolls eyes*

I agree, Julia, why is taxpayer money being spent interfering in the lifestyle decisions of individuals. It’s as if there isn’t enough proper crime to be investigated here in England. I wonder is this policeman able to unilaterally make decisions on who should be protected from themselves or is he being given his orders from elsewhere?

The most the police should do is to make one announcement that if any person is arranging to go to fight in another country other than as a member of our armed forces, then it has nothing to do with the police except, as you suggest, to make sure they aren’t allowed back into our country once they’ve left, assuming they survive that long.

Nev should be helping them on their way by giving them a one way travel document and taking any British passports they might have.

He could also broker a deal with one of the budget airlines, I hear the one that used to do the Egypt run is looking for traffic, to give low cost flights to those that want to go.
