Council Priorities…

Blackburn with Darwen Council is seeking designation as a ‘Breastfeeding Friendly Borough’.

It’s executive board last week agreed to take measures to secure official approval for the title.

…what, you thought it was all cleaning the streets & keeping the parks mown?

The commitment will include:

Supporting local businesses to provide an environment which encourages mums to continue breastfeeding;

Engaging with local public transport agencies to ensure breastfeeding mums feel welcomed when they need to feed their baby;

Promoting local leisure time establishments including leisure centres, restaurants and shopping centres to welcome breastfeeding mums;

Supporting council buildings and health settings to be breastfeeding friendly;

Education of the benefits of breastfeeding for mum and baby along with wider society and how best to support a breastfeeding mum; and

Challenge the ‘bottle feeding’ culture amongst young mums and those from lower socio economic backgrounds.

I predict lots of meeting, with PowerPoint and biscuits. Probably from Waitrose.

    I suppose they wouldn’t consider consolidating the approach by putting up large posters everywhere of Viz’s ‘Sid the sexist’ with his battle-cry of “Tits oot fer the lads”, would they?

    I’ll support anything that has young mums getting their tits out.

    There was a young lady of Wantage,
    Of whom the Town Clerk took advantage.
    Said the Borough Surveyor,
    Of course you must pay her,
    You’ve totally altered her frontage.

    Let it all hang out said the council, some snowflakes and still milksop,
    so good as their word it was put to the test,
    Satanic northern mill town got all up and trendy,
    unveiled for their babies,
    “glory be!” said the wimin, who’ll give me a bairn, suitors there were, nowhere to be found,
    surrogacy waiting list, they’ll be bound.

    I am posting a notice outside my house “Mothers who want to breast feed their babies and others are welcome please knock”.

    What’s the betting there will soon be a licence fee and feeding regs.

    Mornings: one breast only. Noon-3pm: both breasts may be used if proper signage is employed. 3pm until 6pm: no breasts on show while school children may be passing, lest they see that gender does actually matter.

    Scandalous! Once again feminism rears its ugly head; why are dads not included in this provision?

    “Biscuits from Waitrose” Probably not, its a 20 mile round trip to the nearest Waitrose. There is not even a branch of Booths in Blackburn. Booths being the North west’s own version of Waitrose. There is an M&S though that also does food.
    My point being that up north we are not well served by commercial outlets of any type that may be considered as expensive. Which is why the council should be concentrating on wealth creation from local businesses not on friendly breast feeding niceties.
