Author: Mike Cunningham

Born in England in 1940 in the middle of the Blitz, the youngest of three brothers, he survived an early death after a gas leak filled his bedroom in Jarrow. His sister, who was born ten years later, died at a tragically-early age of sixteen from leukaemia. He joined the Merchant Navy after an Engineering education, and spent seven-odd years living a footloose existence at sea, but met the light of his life, the girl who is now his wife of now forty-seven years while in London. Lived in South Africa for eighteen years while raising three kids, all of whom are now Engineers of varying disciplines themselves. Worked in Africa, and then in England in heavy Engineering, on water, sewage, power and electricity projects, watching the steady decline, in Great Britain, of all types of manufacturing and engineering excellence for the next twenty-five years. This decline mainly due to a combination of political interference and political ineptitude. Likes and loves his family, giving special attention to the three Grandsons who are all both independent and always smiling! Is very proud of his three adult kids. Interests range from politics to blogging and writing, from classical music to photography. Is taking a special interest these days in local council political matters. He has had two books published, one of which is a book in both print and Kindle, and is a novel about Right-wing politics, with four more available as e-books. Politically, he is inclined towards the Right, but is constantly depressed by what is on offer on that side of the political divide. Dislikes the very idea of the European Union, and is forlornly awaiting any Party to keep their promises regarding that bureaucracy-ridden place by the offer of a Referendum. High on any wish-list is an importation of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States into the political life of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so that once more Freemen can speak Freely, without recourse to euphemisms and double-speak!

Measure twice, cut once!

During the seventeen/eighteen years I lived in South Africa, it was a privilege to live, travel and work in a Society where Engineering was understood. In amongst the many things produced in the power-house which was the Engineering world of…

Where’s the fire?

If a foursome of murderous Muslim terrorists had self-detonated their suicide vests  in central London in the late ‘Sixties or ‘Seventies, amidst the murderous onslaught of the IRA, there would have been anger,  and a desire for revenge: to equal…

a school lunch search party

“But. my young friend, what makes us even more suspicious is the fact that you carried not only two cooked ham sandwiches with mayonnaise, but also a crab salad; both rich in unhealthy super-saturated fats and items forbidden under the…

The true sound of silence

I offer, for your contemplation, a post which I wrote, some five years ago, on mine own small site:- Far from the madding crowd’s ignoble strife, Their sober wishes never learn’d to stray; Along the cool sequester’d vale of life…

Dear People worldwide…..

You trusted us on the Nazis. You trusted us when we told you those small children would be entirely safe with our priests, despite overwhelming proof to the contrary. You really trusted us when scandal erupted over the totally-crooked and…

Something of Value

The school only learned about the filming when they were shown ‘very emotional’ footage of bullying and were told it would be screened on ITV. The headmistress and governors of the Roman Catholic school have said they are now seeking…

I am shocked;…

and also horrified! Not by the simple fact that some bent celebrity bloke and his legally-acquired rent boy have hurriedly left their ‘glamorous honeymoon tour’ in Honduras, as they literally had it coming; but shocked by the simple truth that…

Seeding the Party Line

I am a regular listener to the Farming Programme, broadcast just before 6.00 a.m. weekdays, with a longer stint on a Saturday. It is presented and produced almost totally by women; and I make that observation with the clarifying comments…

So, you are part of a nation; a nation which has been patched together from ten thousand villages, and towns,; with borders which date from colonial times; you have been ruled by dictators, overrun by so-called Democratic Armies, you have…
