The latest salvo in the righteous war on stuff we like is…
…er…. Oh, um…
A link between memory loss and a high calorie diet has been suggested by researchers in the US.
Here we go… “suggested” so likely as not, more junk science. Out of just over 1200 old fogeys, 163 were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. Yeah, right. When we grow older this stuff happens. I am forgetful now and I’ve a way to go before I reach three score years and ten.
The study group was all over 70 and apparently those on a high calorie diet were twice as likely to suffer MCI. As the study didn’t look at any other variables, frankly, it’s nothing to worry about.
The study cannot say that a high calorie diet causes MCI, people who are cognitively impaired could end up eating more food or there could be another factor involved which increases the risk of both.
It has also not yet been published in a peer-reviewed academic journal.
So, another health scare story designed to get us to eat the “right” foodstuffs. Frankly, if I get to 70+ I’m not going to be over worried about my diet killing me. I’d much rather enjoy what life I have left.
