TPA pin-up and pinhead for May

May’s Pin-Up of the Month is Treasury Minister, David Gauke, for launching an online tax calculator and smartphone app which allows you to discover what you are paying each year in Income Tax and Employees’ National Insurance. High demand caused the tax calculator website to crash on its launch day, which is testament to the fact that people really do want to know more about where their money is going.

Meanwhile, our Pinhead of the Month for May is Cllr Richard Williams, who became leader of Southampton City Council after the recent local elections. His first act in his new role was to announce an increase in the size of the council’s Cabinet from six councillors (as under the previous administration) to eight, costing taxpayers an extra £22,000 per year in additional allowances. However, his reorganisation descended into farce when the new Cabinet member for efficiency quit within days; there are currently no plans for a replacement.

I think that’s more testament to the fact that quite a few people actually still believe what the government tells them. 😐
