Death Inconvenience To Those Who Insult Community Speedwatch Volunteers!”

A driver who insulted community volunteers has had his £11,000 BMW seized by police.

No, it’s not a new power they’ve snuck in under the radar. Though I bet they’d love to, if they only thought they could get away with it…

Sergeant Stuart Mullins, of Sussex Police, revealed: “Following recent incidents where motorists have been abusive to Community Speedwatch Volunteers, Seaford Police seized a motor vehicle on Friday.

“The vehicle a black BMW was being driven along Upper Belgrave Road past a team of Speedwatch Volunteers who were monitoring speeds as children left the nearby primary school, in support of the ‘Think School Travel’ campaign.

“Not only was the vehicle driven at speed but those in the car made insulting gestures to the volunteers.

“When police stopped the vehicle the driver, a 21 year old local man, was unable to prove that he had valid insurance for it and the vehicle was subsequently seized by police.”

Yes. He’s an idiot. But don’t jump to the conclusion that he must not have insurance  just because the police can’t find it on their system!

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “This incident highlights our confusion with this sort of behaviour. Firstly why would somebody have an issue with members of their own community trying to promote road safety and in this instance help to make the area safer for young children? “

Maybe because he thinks that’s why we pay you, and not a bunch of jumped up little wannabe gauleiters with clipboards, you posturing popinjay?

“Secondly why would you do this and draw attention to yourself if there was the slightest question mark over the legality of your vehicle?

For the sake of not being sensible and minding his own business the driver has had the vehicle seized and has the prospect of paying the recovery and storage fees to get it back once the insurance has been confirmed.”

See? ‘Once the insurance has been confirmed’, you still have to pay. They get you coming AND going, don’t they?

“..but those in the car made insulting gestures to the volunteers.”

Perhaps they were just demonstrating that they *did* know how to fasten their seat belts? 😎

“Community speed watch volunteers”. People like that should have garbage thrown at them if they go out in public. 👿

Whilst most police are good, I bet I wouldn’t be surprised if the police had said that there was a fault with the online insurance check. So if the driver in question didn’t have the insurance form with him in the car at that exact moment, then he hasn’t got proof. So car nabbed and impounded without any appeal or proper process because it so easy to abuse the process. The procedure is the punishment.

    Driver is still a wanker.

If this driver had his car seized but did have valid insurance he would get all his costs back.If he didn’t have insurance then he has to pay the fine and the costs for retrieval.Serves him right for being an idiot.
When I seize cars I ring the insurance company to double-check the computer.Lots of cars come up uninsured on the PNC but are covered-for example trade policies, recently taken out cover, registration number one digit incorrect.

Yes, of course he will get all his costs back: after a few weeks of having to take the bus while the administrative difficulties caused by the officer transposing a couple of digits on the report form, and having to spend hours on the telephone arguing the toss with call-centre imbeciles. Which is of course perfectly just deserts for the crime of disagreeing with right-thinking people.

Brian, you can pick the car up within two hours if you are correctly insured.I’m sure you have exaggerated to prove a point.Anyway in the Met if you don’t collect the car in two weeks it gets turned into scrap metal!.

The real danger of this sort of incident is that the police assume more and more power that they are not entitled to. And the effect is both progressive and accumulative.
The youth should not indulge in drive by offence but that is not the real issue.
The real issue is that the police have gone from village bobby to armed enforcers in little less than 20yrs and in doing so have been bestowed with little accountability unless they indulge in any politically incorrect activity. Then, and only then are they bought to account.
The police are highly politicised weapons of the British State, progressive politicians and civil servants..

      WHAT offence?

O.K no insurance, but to flip the finger at some wee jumped up little wanker who wants to play poiliceman for the day, is NOT an “offence”

(In fact, it is a community service!)

      FUCK them!

This kind of arsehole must have been MOST upset, when they disbanded the Stassi.

    & others.
These days the on-line insurance (etc) checks are pretty good.
I’ve been stopped (along with a lot of others, for a perfectly valid reason) was asked “… is this your car, sir?” Yes … “name, please, sir?” … name “… OK, please wait a minute … OK road’s clear, off you go, have a nice day.”

    This idiot had no insurance.
