It’s Official – Identity Politics Has Eaten Itself…

Fashion house shock tactics? Surely not!

So, it’s been announced that 17-year-old Jaden Smith, son of American actor Will Smith, is to be the new face of Louis Vuitton clothes. To be more specific, the womenswear section.

*yawns* But wait!

But there is another, more important issue afoot.

Hmmm, I can’t wait, actually…

Male-to-female transgender people rely on props like clothes, shoes, make-up and hairstyles to create the gender identity they want to portray to the world because most of the time their bodies alone are unable to do that.

*stunned disbelief*

She can’t be saying what I think she’s saying, surely?

The danger for trans women is that if wearing what are traditionally women’s clothes becomes the norm for men too, then trans women will no longer be able to rely on these props to help them display a female gender identity – and for many, that could be a serious problem.

Oh. She is.

“When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows. […]. Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path.”

But if you’re trans-gender, you can’t reproduce, surely, because you don’t physically have the sex-bits that match your gender…

I’m sure ‘science’ is working on that. Instead of my flying car.

Apparently Jaden is regarded as a gender fluid icon.

It looks like a load of tat to me, which might be dismissed as just the view of an older person who does not understand.

However, as it happens I do understand a great deal about schmutter and the graphic sources of popular fashion. The Chinese went nutty for a while with the thrill of new money, but their 1980s-style excess has just screamed in to the buffers. They are not going to continue to be gulled in to paying hundreds of dollars for branded tat. LVMH has mined out its virtue.

Incidentally, don’t go to the LVMH website. It is another of those arsey over-engineered monsters which does nothing for five minutes, then crashes the browser. Sheesh. Why are fashion houses so bad at webs?

Are they good at anything, except fashion? And sometimes, not even that!

It’s all “The Emperor’s New Clothes” – utter bollocks swallowed by those so anxious to be seen as switched-on and aware. Pathetic empty souls.

      “Emperor’s new clothes”

      Aye, stark bollocks……. naked maybe?

Mind you, talking of bollocks, anyone who desires to have them removed – surely needs a padded room, if not pads.

and then, I’ve met some lads whose auras breathe testosterone, wouldn’t ever dream of trying on the wife’s knickers, who eat rocks for breakfast and fight for fun, need danger as if life depended on it and yet – have a soppy soft side. The girl who exudes femininity, but who would, in cold eyed glee rip your balls off if you ever came between her and the kids.

Life, it takes all sorts, judge ’em I don’t, laugh at it all i will – the real worry is, has society lost its collective nuts? Yes, I believe it to be so.
