“Mummy, Where Do FakeCharities Come From?”

Conservative councillor Andrew Wealls said he was suspicious about the proposal by local charity Pebble Trust to create Better Brighton and Hove! in a bid to identify, analyse and propose solutions to some of the city’s major problems.

The trust has approached Brighton and Hove City Council with an offer of £350,000 to launch the independent think tank as a charity.

I can see why a Green-dominated area like Brighton would be seen as easy prey for a hippy-dippy ‘charity’ like this one, but what’s in it for the usual suspects?

Other councillors welcomed the proposal with council leader Warren Morgan recommending committee members do not look a “gift horse in the mouth” and Green councillor Ollie Sykes described it as a great offer the council should grasp with both hands.

Are they planning on getting lucrative consultation roles out of it? They must be, because it’s no bargain!

As part of the agreement the council would provide £250,000 of office space and officer time and the charity would promise to have at least 40 per cent of funding spent on issues the council identified as important.

“Give us the dosh and we’ll give you less than half of our attention!” Errr, no thanks…

Other local partners such as the city’s two universities, Sussex Police and American Express, could also contribute up to £50,000 to the think tank which would commission research into city problems.

Don’t they have enough people ‘looking at the city’s problems’ already?

Yes. Yes, they do:

The think tank would be in addition to the council’s own Fairness Commission, set up September 2015 to find ways of making the city more equal, and Brighton and Hove Connected, a partnership of public sector, business and community leaders exploring key city matters.

Then why would they need one more? Less ‘research’, more action!

Labour’s Emma Daniel said: “We should be excited that people have the confidence in our city and they want to invest money for very little return.”

Someone’s getting a good return, Emma. I wonder just who..?

Knowing Brighton they’ll jump at it. Instead of just iring more bin collectors and rubbish pickers they’ll keep throwing money at grand, sweeping ideologies that achieve nothing apart from creating debt. This is how the Left ruin things.

Why do they get voted in, then? I can’t really understand it…

Er, JM……if I may, I am going to wander off topic ever so slightly here but it is imho, a tad relevant.

By bloodline, a historian no less! I was lucky to be able to call a lovely lady ‘my aunt’, she was an astute and rather observant old gal, we used to visit her fascinating [for a child] old house set just off the coast road, somewhere in darkest, deepest Hove.

She used to sparkle, when regaling us with stories about Brighton’s faded but grand past and it was a town which was living on past grandeur but it was a gentle facade, though some of the city’s outer estates contained a rabble who would scare the living daylights out of many an ‘out of towner’.

Visit Brighton today, it is a car crash and in more ways than the literal.

Where shiny shops, endless, cafe’s, clubs, gleaming trash is brash and gaudy mingles with, utter deprivation and with an ever growing underworld of addled addicts and some very hard criminal gangs, of course London gangs had always clashed with the local boys since and before, the days of Greene’s novel.

Brighton today, is, not a nice place.

Brighton is run by criminals – those who are of the more conventional variety and those directly elected by a gormless public who believe that entrenching Multiculturalism, going ‘green’ and Socialism on speed – spending money as though it grows on trees and wasting wads of cash on specious ‘community projects’ – is virtue signalling gone to insane extremes…..

A council given to, concentrating on subsets of voters, playing endlessly divisive minority politics and because the council and here by no means are Brighton council practises exclusive to west Sussex – Brighton’s political claque are bought and paid for by the corporate interests not least the city centre property Empire leeches landowners and landlords to the chain shops, pubs, clubs and hotel groups – insisting on their fiefdoms, their own pound of flesh and pushing out the small businesses – the only thing which made Brighton worth a visit – ‘the Lanes’ and other delights as were, off Church Street and Marlborough place etc.
The little shops are undone by business rates, additional charges for refuse removal, and any number of other unseen costs and that’s before you start to think about electricity, water, heating and……wages, these days if you own a small shop – you do it out of love and devotion.
Thus, by placing themselves properly in the pockets of the corporate blob [Socialism is statism is crony capitalism], Brighton council; agitating building some green Utopia, funding and widening division and always: taking their eye completely off the ball.

Brighton MDC continues to destroy its own town, encourages ever more arrivals – indigent welfare begging, it deconstructs society itself via multiculti, by their own hands and shafting the taxpayers of Socialist persuasion/Gay vote and those few who are slightly more right leaning – and aren’t these always those who really suffer?

I haven’t been to Brighton for years (took my mum on a trip back in 2009 for some antiques hunting) but the rot was setting in then. A shame, indeed.

It is a shame, it really is and yesterday in the Telegraph Tim Stanley gave his take on Brighton.

Sussex on Thames, and the new arrivals from London way. Alluding to, the intolerable intolerant piety, the insanely prejudiced bigotry veined in the liberal elite who, put together with the puritans of the left wing green orthodoxy. The town of Brighton inevitably shape shifts from a retreat of le ancien regime into: Islington on Sea and seat of the les personnes nouvelles belles aka the leftwing aristocracy……

Cripes move over the horsey set because, hearken to their jackboots hammering down the London road – the Nazis of the monied left have come to town and rejoice or else be cast down!

“…Brighton MDC continues to destroy its own town…”

The same can be said for many other councils; nearly all of the left/fruitcake variety.

And almost all South and East coast seaside towns. I wonder why?
