So, Plod Might Have To Get Off Their Arses Soon?

Former education secretary Nicky Morgan led calls for irresponsible owners to face the same punishments as those whose dogs attack humans or guide dogs.

Environment minister George Eustice insisted the powers were already in place to penalise such attacks, though acknowledged there were inconsistencies in how the laws were applied that would be reviewed.

Well, hurrah! I’ve been pointing this out for how long?

Leading a Westminster Hall debate on the issue, Ms Morgan said 14 of 39 police forces responded to her freedom of information request about the number of dog attacks on other dogs that had been reported in the past two years.

Isn’t it a bit of a scandal that the others didn’t?

“Sussex Police alone recorded 828 such attacks in the past two years, and the force responsible for my own constituency, Leicestershire, recorded 32 incidents of a dog attacking another dog, and an additional 82 cases where a dog attacked both a dog and a person in the same incident.

“This is clearly very concerning and is important that police forces and local authorities have the powers they need to tackle the problem and reduce the number of attacks.”

They have all the powers they need. They just aren’t using them sensibly.

Ms Morgan said that her local council believed a dog needed to be involved in three incidents before an owner could be prosecuted.

But Mr Eustice said the so-called “three strikes” rule was not actually part of the law and recognised there is an issue which he was going to look at in regards to enforcement.

Time to kick some arses, methinks.

All it needs is 100,000 names on a petition to invoke Clarkson’ s Law – “Any dog which unlawfully attacks another animal, or a human being, should be put down, immediately followed by it’s owner.” – and it will have to be discussed in Parliament.

Condemned dogs should be sold off to Chinese restaurants.

I’ve sat on my feet a large Newfoundland. Across the way is the other dog, a 3 year old German Shepard. Said Shepard is a boisterous young male. He can quite easily pull the wife over. El Newfie is also a young, strong dog, he’s just lazy.

Now, Mongo, the Shepard is often lead by my youngest and that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. When we got him, he was reminded who was pack leader. He was, to be blunt, trained. It took time and a lot of effort – he would jump up at dinner times but was batted in the face by Son of Wiggy who has his own chair – but he is an amazing pet and clearly last in the pack.

Don’t destroy the dog. Kill the owner. I’ll bet there’s a common demoninator amongst age, demographic, academic achievement and all that jazz so we really won’t be losing a lot to society.
