Breach Of Data Protection Trumped By Disability Rights

Laura Press was shopping in Asda in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, with her daughters when she returned to her vehicle and found a note which read: ‘Your badge number has been taken’.

Mrs Press, who was left ‘mortified’ by the note, later spoke to an Asda manager, who checked CCTV and discovered the person who left the note was an elderly man.

Wait, what..?

So, anyone can ask to see the Asda CCTV and they’ll happily oblige…?!?

A spokesperson from Disability Rights UK said: ‘Disabled people have rights and entitlements arising from their disability or long-term health condition and not because they have a long cane, a wheelchair or some other visible sign of their condition.

‘This elderly man is probably a regular shopper and I hope this person gets to talk to him at some point about her feelings, possibly with the store’s help.’

He’ll be shopping at a rival store now, if he knows what’s good for him!

An Asda spokesperson said: ‘At Asda we recognise that not all disabilities are visible, which is why we launched an initiative to raise awareness of invisible illnesses in 2016.

We want all of our customers to feel comfortable shopping with us…’

Really? How do you think they feel right now?

I would have thought that you would have been having a go at the prod nosed busybody rather than the disabled person Julia. Although her claims to be all hurt and traumatised might be a bit suspect, if she isn’t abusing her blue badge you would think that she had little to worry about. Having said that, we all know about having to deal with the kind of jobsworths who will no doubt be investigating her case.

The average IQ of a store manager (there are ‘studies’) hovers around 97 and threatens to drop to 95 whenever a snowflake appears.
