Enough of the sad stares; your little girl is dead!

The tributes to Madeleine in the square in her hometown of Rothley on 17 May 2007

Once again, those pained and painted  expressions of affected grief stare out at us from the Daily Mail Pages, as the umpteenth effort to extort ever more taxpayers’ cash to fund the ‘Search for Madeleine enters the race track which ends with the massed attack on the Home Office and Metropolitan Police coffers, as the search to gather funding for the thirtieth, or is it only the twenty-ninth attempt at accomplishing the team’s efforts in searching ‘one significant final line of inquiry.

We read of the lunacies of this sad pair as they dredge, once more, the public’s available supplies of sorrow, as they once more attempt to gain support for ever more cash to spend on the search for their missing child. No mention of the millions which have been squandered in ‘following this lead’; or searching for ‘that missing witness’, or even attempting to right the wrong of a Portuguese policeman’s book, which detailed HIS ideas about that poor child’s parents. No mention of their sinking cash into the pockets of any slick, fast-talking con-man who reckons that he can solve the crime which fixated millions of readers: fixated that is until we all got slightly bored with the whines of a couple who should, by now, have just got on with their lives; and let the shadows grow quiet.

Let us all recall instead how this tragedy came about, when a couple of well-educated Brits decided to eat and drink with their mates at some Portuguese cafe, ‘just a couple of hundred yards ‘away from their apartment. The apartment where lay; unprotected, their twins and that small girl with the appealing eyes, those children who were not protected by a child-minder, because the parents claimed they would check back regularly!

Give us all a break, Gerry, get on with your life, and tell your missus that the ’EYES’ don’t have it any more!

I have to say I completely agree with you. All this unending self-pity deflects away from the real issue, which is Madeline’s tragedy and the fact that had they both parented properly that night Madeline would still be with them today.

But visiting that guilt on the rest of us, and bemoaning the rest of us to forgive them and hand over even more public and charity funding to massage thier guilt is now an unreasonable waste of resources. I do not want to see another penny of taxpayer’s money fed to these people.

The parents should have been prosecuted for child neglect.
They have been given an easy ride because of their social status, 2 doctors, and the fact that they are reasonably telegenic.
The fact is they were out drinking, and eating, while their infant children were let unattended.
If the parents had been fat, inarticulate chavs they would have been vilified throughout the media and the country.

Their lives are probably ruined now, having lost their daughter as a result of their selfish actions and decisions.
Worse, of course, is the fate of Madeleine herself.

And what of the young twins? When will they stop running the question through their heads, ‘Why did Mummy and Daddy leave us alone when they were out drinking?’

It is almost incomprehensible that they did not avail themselves of the resort child minding service.

…I remembered a piece I wrote a while back, just around the time of the ‘Brexit’ Referendum…

Where did you write this back in 2016?

The scene is set in the present, with two partisan sectors, with vastly differing ideas, opinions and motives: both attempting to capture the public’s minds and intentions before a vote, a Referendum ballot; finally takes place to determine…
