China’s Belt and Road Initiative

Guestpost from Ken Craggs:

Belt and Road (BRI) is a China-led global infrastructure development initiative, from 2013 to 2050, that encompasses 60+ countries and more than 70 per cent of the world human population (4.4 billion).

The BRI is estimated to cost $8 trillion with countries getting loans for BRI projects from a range of banks and funds. And according to the Center for Global Development, 23 of 68 countries are already at “quite high” risk of debt distress due to BRI projects. Here is the China BRI Portal and here is a BRI infpgraphic. Useful links for BRI info on Twitter can be found herehere, and here.

On another note, from 11-15 September 2018, China & Russia will participate in their largest ever joint military exercise which will involve over 300,000 Russian troops.
