    In the end every politician betrays you – the only known exception to date was Enoch Powell, whose boots are for too big even for Rees-Mogg to fill.

    There is, of course, just a chance that he’s playing for time to avoid a full-blown confrontation by intending to identify any May “deal” as unacceptable and before we know it we have a clean break on March 29 simply because there’s no time left to attempt a fudge.
