Persuading Remainers

Guestpost by Sackerson:

It seems to me that May & Co’s strategy is delay with a view to getting some popular positive affirmation/passive assent to overturn the result of the Referendum. We should use this Fabian approach to our advantage and re-couch our arguments and language to persuade our opponents rather than reconfirm our supporters’ view.

There must be an element of the Remainers that is amenable to reason and perhaps needs to be gently disillusioned re the EU – for example the notion that the EU has kept the peace in Western Europe has to be contrasted with its growing militarism and Russophobia (I’ll have a go, but your military experts could probably do it better.)

We should avoid the temptations of “we won” “17.4 million” crowing and the denigration of Remainers, so that more can be won over and the plot for a second referendum can wither as its prospective outcome becomes unattractive to the Ollygarchs.

And no more easily exploded targets like the “NHS bus” trick that has been endlessly used by Remainers as “proof” that the Referendum was won on “lies”.

Good grief, Anna Soubry’s even more obnoxious and bullying than on Al-Beeb/C4

Rude, disparaging, condescending, threatening: “You’re a member, very interesting, where do you live?” – blackmail, extortion, coercion?

Objection M’Lord: Soubry lied with “He never delivered a leaflet” – “John” refused to confirm/deny for PerSec

Anna Soubry and Constituent on LBC

Soubry’s behaviour should persuade honest, law-abiding, democrat remainers to support Leave EU

I take it you mean ‘alcoholic’.

That just makes us the same as her. We’ve got to be better. The higher we rise, the further the Left fall. All they have is insults and abuse. We have logic, reason and argument. Let them burn in their own fire.

Sadly, logic, reason and argument are only valuable expressed in a manner your audience understands. The 350 million a week on the NHS was a targeted argument about spending priorities. It doesn’t work on people who don’t ride buses or don’t believe the NHS can be fixed if just a bit more money is crammed down its throat. It’s not dishonest, it’s just an argument people who ride buses really believe in the NHS can understand.

Remainers will more likely ride trains and love what they see as nasty Britain’s incredible gifts from the EU. An argument that may work on them is keeping the pound keeps your mortgage low, but then they have to believe the EU wants take the pound.. they don’t want working class wages to rise or their bills for a nanny, the builder, plumber etc all go up. If they aren’t prepared to perceive a downside to the EU, they can’t be persuaded…
