Farage’s eyes on the gong, not key constituencies?

This is typical of the problems stemming from Farage’s move:

One commenter on the Alexandra Phillips article:

Nigel Farage’s move is unprincipled because he has not just given way to, but decided to support, another political party and Brexit agreement which he profoundly disagreed with only a day earlier, without consulting members of his own party, nor his party’s candidates.

Now look at this one quite carefully:

There seem only two possible explanations:

1. With eyes on the gong and his status as a British statesman in perpetuity, NF took his eyes off the ball or

2. This was intended all along and NF was always a plant.

Either way, this is most unimpressive.

    This truly is our winter of discontent, this great betrayal of our lowly Britons, The E U. just sit back and amuse yourselves at the treachery of Farage the biggest Fake (conman) in British political history, he took us to the brink of Freedom and dumped us this explains why he did not want to stand as a MP he knew it was all a con, just indulging a giant EGO.

      He and they have completely misread the British public, the public mind being:

      1. Let’s just get this show over with, even if it’s Johnson ‘for now’;

      2. We voted to leave, that’s what we should be doing NOW, completely, without any bollox like deals and backstops.

      I’d say the first is the vast majority who have not understood it and the second is maybe 10-12% of the country’s voters.

    The problem is that the Brexit party is not a political party. I’m not sure what the correct term is but I keep thinking it’s more like a fan club. The owner of the fan club has decided to change the focus of the fandom from celebrity A to celebrity B. The subscribers now have to decide whether or not to cancel their subscription. I suppose it depends on whether they like celebrity B as much as they like celebrity A.
