Compare that to the US, where there are an estimated 30,000 excess deaths per year, due to lack of access to care.

We have a pretty shitty healthcare system. The US has a pretty shitty healthcare system. Lots of other countries have an excellent healthcare system. There are now countries in what used to be referred to as the third world that have better healthcare outcomes than we do. Why do defenders of the NHS always refer to the US as the much worse alternative?

In my case, it’s because I have lived in the US for 41 years, and experienced many of the problems first hand.

Fair enough. But effectively saying ‘hey come on, the UK only has the second worse healthcare in the developed world’ could be described as damning with faint praise.

I didn’t ‘effectively say that’. There are loads of parts of the US system which are awful, including the fact that the majority of bankruptcies are caused by medical bills. Every year, coverage gets more expensive to buy, yet covers less of the cost, even as the insurance companies reduce reimbursements to doctors and hospitals.

By contrast, all I have on the NHS is some reading and anecdotal stuff. Many people that I know seem very happy with it. My mother had excellent care until her death in 1988. From my reading, many of the problems seem to be associated with defunding by the Tories, so that they can claim incompetence and sell parts off to their friends and allies. This is a page right out of the GOP handbook, which did exactly the same to the VA system, whil we were at war, no less.

I live in the UK, my professional life requires regular contact with the NHS. It is awful. Politically unpopular groups who struggle to complain get awful care, such as the elderly or mentally ill.

Mid Staffs NHS killed 26000 by thirst. Gosport killed hundreds by morphine overdose. Nothing is done until the cover up fails, then the white wash judicial review blames no one.

Recently the NHS had to have a medical study to show helping sick people eat their meals stopped them dying.

Visiting times are controlled, like a prison.

A patient is a cost in the NHS, not a human.

The US has its flaws healthcare wise, but copy France, Germany, Singapore or whomever. Not “our death camp” NHS…..

Put every house on the internet, it could save the NHS billions.. A few years ago I was told I needed heart surgery and was booked into St Thomas’s Hospital, my prescription included, Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Lansoprazole, simvastatin, Bisoprolol. I asked the Consultant Cardiologist how long must I take these for he said “the rest of your Life”. My closest friend begged me not to have the operation just change what you eat and cut out those custard creams, on the did the internet I found out so much about Healthy food and the toxic shit they call food, your number one enemy is SUGAR, I personally have saved the NHS thousands by looking at the internet, although big pharma is busy making so many natural cures illegal.
No expensive surgery no prescriptions, I look upon my Doctors Surgery as a scene of crime. No operation no drugs I am healthy.
